BWV 1013 II Corrente - Flute Partita in A Minor (J.S. Bach) from Fahmi Alqhai "The Bach Album" © Glossa / Dance: Carmen Muñoz / Director: Adrian Cores / Dir. Assist.: Manuel Alday / Color: El Colorado

Contemporary dancer Carmen Muñoz performs an improvisation over an iconic four part Bach composition interpreted by Fahmi Alqhai on Viola da gamba. Hailing from Granada, Carmen is energetic, instinctive and an extremely talented dancer with clear hints of Flamenco influences. Fahmi Alqhai, from Sevilla, is a well known figure of baroque music with a special touch for programs exploring the roots and connexions between different music forms. Contemporary visuals, settings and dance merge with the sounds of musical genius Bach. Initially located in an unbuilt housing scheme outside Madrid, the video advances from empty abstract to semi constructed locations and finally onto Madrid’s most central and iconic street, Gran Vía. In each setting Carmen dances and interacts with the different living and moving obstacles such as cars, pedestrians and urban furniture.

In the intimacy of the night, lit by candles. A short but deep musical dialog between the artist, her instrument and her own shade. Shot inside a sculpture named la “Chapelle Anne”, by the contemporary artist Andrea Malär, Lucile Boulanger offers over a minute of pure grace. A quick sincere and beautiful meditation reflecting on the absolute modernity of this baroque piece surrounded by the essential platonist forms. Full of harmony and philosophy.

During sunrise, like in a dream. An early morning meditation waking up on the beach. The light designs beautiful figures coming across the musician’s body and her shadow. Something simple, natural and beautiful. Like a child drawing on the sand, playing with the water, jumping from a stone to another. A certain innocence and also a hint of nostalgia of child playground souvenirs. An animated and lightful painting surrounded by majestic drone shots in a sublime setting.

Inspired by the collection of concertos for violin by Jean-Marie Leclair published in the XVIIIth century, this project evolves in parallel between the violinist Leila Schayegh and the dancer Carlos Kerr.

Approached in the form of docu-fiction and through the notion of "kopfkino", meaning "cinema in the head" in German, this project seeks to follow each of them throughout a day in their lives by a kind of immersive camera. Because, in real life, Leila and Carlos are both artists and both live in Switzerland. Leila is a great soloist and violin teacher at the prestigious Schola Cantorum in Basel.
